When in Rome, do as the Romans do….  Isn’t that how the saying goes?  I’m in New York and Aunt shops at the ShopRite (even uses coupons, just not obsessively like me, lol).  I checked out a few good deals since we are going in the morning and in case any of you are ShopRite shoppers, I thought I’d share…

~ ShopRite week of June 1, 2008 ~

FREE:

Ecotrin Aspirin, on sale $0.99, use $1 coupon (5/11 SS) = FREE

CHEAP:

Chniet Casuals, on sale $1.25, $0.75 blinkies = $0.50

Lysol antibacterial spray reg $5.99, on sale $2.99, use $2 coupon (5/4 SS) = $0.99

Pepsi 2 liters are 5 for $5 and grapes are $1.49 / lb.  Maybe not super bargains, but a couple of things I plan to pick up in the morning.

I gave Aunt my Lysol and Ecotrin coupons, so she will get 6 bottles of Ecotrin and 6 cans of Lysol for $5.94!

Does anyone reading the blog shop at ShopRite?  Maybe this info will help you out.  Hubby thought I was crazy bringing coupons with me, but I have to do my CVS deals while we are away!  They get double coupons here in New York (I don’t know the technical stuff on it) and even triples sometimes!  I’m so jealous!!  LOL!

UDATE:

I forgot to mention the Colgate Total is on sale for $1.79 and there was a $1.50 coupon in this week’s paper that makes the toothpaste 29 cents!

We had an unplanned family gathering today – hubby’s cousins (his aunt’s two sons) came by, as did their wives and each of their children (4 kids total, ages 4 to 16).  They were coming from or heading toward something, but it was nice seeing her two sons and the youngest child again (he was about my son’s age now, when we were here last) and meeting their wives and the other three kids (hopefully I won’t cause any offense to the 16 and 13 year old, who I am sure will tell you that they are NOT kids anymore for crying out loud, but for the sake of simplicity, I’m using the term, lol).

My son’s schedule is still somewhat off-kilter… Bed times and wake up times are a little off, but ok I guess.  It’s the non-napping that makes for some long days.  He is starting to nap a little bit again but whether he takes one and if it lasts more than 20 minutes is all iffy.

We tossed around some ideas today of things we may do while we are here, so I am looking forward to all of that.  We have an idea of when we will probably leave to head home, but it is nice not being tied to a schedule.  Hubby does have a certain date he has to be back at work of course, but it doesn’t put us on a time crunch, so we are free to just take each day as it comes.

I finished off this week’s and May’s monthly CVS deal shopping tonight – I plan to catch up on posting my deals for the last week and will post details on tonight’s CVS run also.  I did 2 transactions, spending 90 cents and 82 cents.  We stopped in at a couple other stores and did some light shopping.

I’ve been having some issues with the internet and with transferring pictures, so I’m not sure what’s going on with that.  Half the time when I have a page loading, it switches to a Google images search instead of just loading the webpage.  Anyone else encounter this?  It’s really driving me crazy!!!  (No comments here on how short that distance may be – keep it to yourself!!  LOL!)  One issue I am having with transferring pictures is trouble getting a good enough signal at the moment I want to send the pictures from my phone (some pics were taken with my phone, some with the digital camera). It seems the amount of signal you have depends on the time of day, the color of the sky and the texture of the soil… I don’t get it, but I’ve noticed it changes even if I haven’t moved at all.  The other issue with the pictures is actually the Google images search issue again – it goes to that when I try to load the site to upload pics from the computer.

Tomorrow looks to be a busy day, at least compared to these days of just kicking back and doing nothing!  We are still having a great time.  I am so glad we decided to make this trip!   Found out they hold the family reunions in August, so we may plan to come back for that at some point in the future (not this year though).

Just a note about the Friday FREE For All – I’m working on it, but it looks like it’ll be tomorrow before it is up.  Friday snuck up on me… with me being on vacation and being lazy and all.  LOL!

Irish Tea.  New York Pizza.  Relaxation.

Sorry, were you expecting more detail than that for a recap of today?

Technically, the tea was Lipton, but hubby’s aunt is 100% Irish through and through and believes in offering tea in true Irish form… upon walking in the door, upon waking, upon discovering I hadn’t had a cup in the past 5 minutes… and I’m loving it.  I love having a cup of tea, but I don’t take the time to make it myself much at home and when I do, it’s heated in the microwave (shhhhh!!!).  I just feel spoiled having tea offered to me and her strong Irish accent makes me feel I am back in Ireland again… heaven.

We had New York Pizza for dinner… delivered.  Back home, only “something-other-than-New-York-style” pizza is delivered.  To find a decent pizza place we have to take a little drive and even then…  Well, let’s just say having New York style pizza IN New York was something we couldn’t pass up.  And we got to be lazy in our effort of getting to dinner.  Which brings me to…

Complete relaxation!  That child of mine didn’t miss a beat when the (non-existent) clock struck 7.  Eyes popped open and hey, time to get up sounds came from him.  So, I personally didn’t get any more than about 5-6 hours of sleep last night and none during the day, but I was able to just kick back and relax all day.… and drink my tea.  Hubby was able to nap a little here and there, which was great – he was beat from two days of driving.  My son and I took a little walk in the neighborhood. The back of the neighborhood overlooks mountains, which was a nice and unexpected treat:

(will insert pic when phone cooperates and sends!)

So far, no plans tomorrow except picking up a few things at the grocery store to grill out and might sneak in a CVS run.  Ahhh… more relaxation!  Saturday morning, I’ve been informed there is a huge yard sale (tag sale in this neck of the woods I understand) we are going to check out and Saturday afternoon I think we are going to take the little one bowling!  I’ll keep the updates coming and pics too when everything cooperates to let me!

We are having a wonderful time in case you missed that, LOL!!!

We arrived… late last night… and after a day full of traffic jams and after $20 in toll fees!  After a 5-6 hour “nap” we are up and starting our day.  At the moment, hubby is trying to get the little one to take a nap – he’s been up less than an hour and a half, but is already so tired he can’t stand it.  He did take a nice nap yesterday evening, which is part of why he was up so late last night.  The travelling has his poor little schedule all turned inside out.

Other than the tolls and traffic, yesterday was fairly uneventful.  I’m so excited we are finally here!  The plans for today include New York pizza, lol, but other than that we don’t have any plans – just going to hang out and relax and see what happens.
